## Why roles matter

A role defines an employee’s place in the agency’s work and affects the features available to them in SOM. When adding an employee, a manager or administrator chooses a role that fits their responsibilities.

## Main working roles

| Role | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| Director | Organises the agency’s work, coordinates the team and monitors results. |
| Broker (realtor) | Works on their own orders and coordinates the agents assigned to them. |
| Agent | Works with their clients and orders: selects options, negotiates, arranges viewings and records outcomes. |
| Lead manager | Helps build and process the enquiry database, clarifies information and organises further work on orders. |

## Brokers and their agents

An agent can have a supervising broker assigned in the agency structure. This links the agent to their supervisor and helps organise the group’s work. If the supervisor is missing or incorrect, ask your manager to check the employee record.

## Administration and data access

**superadmin** is a role for system administration and access management. It serves a different purpose from an employee’s day-to-day working role.

Access to contacts, orders, deals and settings also depends on agency rules, responsibility for a record and permission settings. A role name alone does not mean unrestricted access to all information.

If a section or action you need is unavailable, contact your SOM manager or administrator. To get started, see [First steps in SOM](/docs/en/general/first-steps).
